The Thorneycroft family know how to make a “rough diamond” shine, according to farming judges.
The Tiraumea farmers are the Keinzley AgVet Wairarapa Farm Business of the Year winners for 2015.
Rob and Lucy Thorneycroft farm 633ha of hill country on Waitawhiti Rd, about 30km east of Eketahuna.
They run 2500 ewes plus replacements and trade lambs, and 270 head of cattle, including breeding cows and their progeny at a stocking rate of around 10.5/ha.
Lambing and calving performance over the past four years has averaged 149 per cent and 92 per cent respectively.
